Travelling to Queenstown
Queenstown is located in the Central Otago region on the South Island of New Zealand. It is 55 minutes drive from Wanaka, 3.5 hours drive from Dunedin, and about 6 hours drive from Christchurch.
Queenstown has the convenience of an international airport, meaning you can fly straight in on the "World's Most Beautiful Airport Approach". Most accommodation is within an easy 15 minute shuttle ride from the airport. Though flying into Queenstown is convenient, it is recommended to compare prices flying into Dunedin and Christchurch as well, where big savings may be possible. There is limited shared transportation between Christchurch and Queenstown, as well as Dunedin and Queenstown, and therefore it is recommended to hire a car when flying into either alternate airport.
Getting Around Queenstown
Many Queenstown hotels are within a short walk from the Queenstown center. It is not recommended to drive into the center of town as parking is very limited and is mostly metered. There is a local shuttle around Queenstown, which picks up and drops off from most hotels. There is a small charge for the local shuttle bus. Many hotels offer their own shuttle service as well, or we suggest soaking up the picturesque scenery and walking into town at least once!
Queenstown does offer transfers from most Queenstown hotels to Coronet Peak Ski Resort, The Remarkables Ski Resort, Cardrona Ski Resort and Treble Cone Ski Resort on a daily basis. These can be pre booked for guaranteed seating.
